ALTERANS – In an extraordinary display of academic excellence, SMP Islam Al Azhar 13 Surabaya has successfully participated in the prestigious Tournament of Champions at the World Scholars Cup (WSC) 2024, held at Yale University, USA. The event, which brought together some of the brightest young minds from around the world, witnessed the Indonesian school’s team competing against top scholars from diverse countries.
The World Scholars Cup is an international academic competition that challenges students in a wide range of subjects, including Science, History, Literature, and more. Students participate in team debates, written exams, and collaborative challenges, showcasing both their individual knowledge and teamwork abilities.

Two teams from SMP Islam Al Azhar 13, composed of talented students from seventh grade, stood out not only for their impressive knowledge but also for their remarkable teamwork and leadership skills. With a rigorous training regimen leading up to the tournament, the team demonstrated exceptional preparedness, marking a proud moment for their school and Indonesia on the world stage.
The coach, Eka Devi Mayasari, expressed immense pride in the students’ achievement, noting that this participation is part of the school’s commitment to fostering global-minded, academically ambitious individuals. “Our students’ participation in the World Scholars Cup is a testament to their hard work, discipline, and passion for learning. We are incredibly proud of them for representing SMP Islam Al Azhar 13 Surabaya with such dedication,” she said.

The tournament, held annually, has become one of the largest and most prestigious academic events for middle school and high school students worldwide. This year’s event in the United States was a significant milestone, as it provided students with opportunities to engage in intellectual exchanges with peers from around the globe.
