ALTERANS – SMP Islam Al Azhar 13 Surabaya has made history by participating in the highly anticipated Asian Youth International Model United Nations (AYIMUN) 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for the first time. The prestigious event, known for gathering young leaders from across Asia, saw the Indonesian school’s delegation take center stage in a global simulation of the United Nations.
The AYIMUN conference provides a platform for students to debate, negotiate, and collaborate on global issues such as education, human rights, and international security, all while representing various countries in a series of UN committee simulations. The event empowers participants to develop critical skills in diplomacy, public speaking, and problem-solving, fostering a deep understanding of global affairs.
SMP Islam Al Azhar 13 Surabaya’s delegation, made up of seven talented and passionate students, worked diligently in the months leading up to the conference, with intensive training on international relations, the UN system, and global policies. The students participated in a variety of committees, where they represented different countries and tackled pressing world issues.
Ezio, one of the participants, expressed excitement in the participation, praising the new vibrant atmosphere of his first MUN participation. “It’s exciting because it’s my very first time joining AYIMUN and I feel I improve my public speaking skill,” Ezio said.
During the event, the SMP Islam Al Azhar 13 Surabaya team demonstrated impressive diplomatic skills, actively engaging with delegates from other nations in constructive discussions. Their participation in the various sessions allowed them to enhance their understanding of global governance while building lasting friendships with like-minded peers from across Asia.
The AYIMUN 2025 conference marked an important milestone for SMP Islam Al Azhar 13 Surabaya, reinforcing the school’s commitment to nurturing globally conscious, well-rounded individuals prepared to lead in an increasingly interconnected world.
As the students returned home, their experience at AYIMUN served as both a valuable learning opportunity and an inspiration to other students in Indonesia, encouraging them to become active participants in global dialogue and to pursue their academic and leadership goals with confidence.
