August is always full of excitement of Indonesia’s Independence Day celebration. The celebration always goes festive and joyful. The excitement was also felt at the Laguna campus of Al-Azhar East Java Chapter. Junior High School of Al Azhar 13 (SMPIA 13) has successfully held a festive commemoration of Indonesia's anniversary.
The festival was held in the form of competitions and ceremony. The competitions were held on Friday, August 16, 2019 in the school yard. It was started at 7 a.m. and ended at 11 a.m. All of students took part in the competitions. Several races and sport competitions were contested, namely gunny sack race, flour relay, water relay, mystery box, word guessing, sunflower seeds race, sarong volleyball, dodge ball, futsal and the rope pull. The races and competitions were thrilling and jovial. The success of the event was inseparable from the adequate preparation and good teamwork of the members of OSIS 2018-2019 and teachers.
“These competitions are intended to foster cooperation skills and nationalism in students. The competitions are also expected to increase student creativity,” said Agung Yuliana, the Coordinator of Student Affairs of SMPIA 13.
The pinnacle celebration was flag ceremony held on
Saturday, August 17, 2019. The ceremony was held in the school yard and
attended by all students, from primary to secondary level, teachers and staffs
of Yayasan Pesantren Islam Al-Azhar Cabang Jawa Timur. In his speech, Mr.
Endang, the ceremony builder, said that the young generation of Muslims must be
creative, innovative and competitive in order to be able to compete with other
